The fifth day of the third Test between India and Australia at the Gabba in Brisbane concluded in a draw, with rain playing a significant role in disrupting play. The series remains level at 1-1, setting up an exciting fourth Test in Melbourne.

Key Highlights from Day 5:

India's First Innings Conclusion: Resuming at 252/9, India added eight runs before being bowled out for 260, trailing Australia's first-innings total of 445 by 185 runs. A crucial 47-run partnership between Jasprit Bumrah (10*) and Akash Deep (31) helped India avoid the follow-on.

Australia's Second Innings Declaration: In a bid to force a result despite weather interruptions, Australia declared their second innings at 89/7, setting India a target of 275 runs.

India's Second Innings and Weather Interruptions: India began their chase and reached 8/0 in 2.1 overs before play was halted due to bad light and subsequent heavy rain. The persistent inclement weather led to the match being called off, resulting in a draw.

Ravichandran Ashwin's Retirement Announcement: In a significant development, India's veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement from international cricket after the match. Ashwin concluded his illustrious career with 537 Test wickets and 3503 runs, including six centuries.

Injury Concern for Australia: Australian batsman Travis Head, who scored 152 in the first innings and was named Player of the Match, suffered a groin injury during the game. Head expressed confidence about his availability for the upcoming Boxing Day Test in Melbourne.

The series stands evenly poised at 1-1, with both teams looking forward to the fourth Test starting on December 26 in Melbourne.
